Piassa Pot
Item: PIASSA

The Piassa is the underwater panther, an actor from the beaneath world.  Notice the wave designs on his sides that denote the water.  This pot was inspired by a stone pipe bowl from the Mississippian Period.   The original pipe bowl  a hole for a pipe stem.    Otherwise this is very much like the original artifact.  The original artifact was dated to 1200-1600 AD

Materials and Techniques:  This pot is hand formed from Native Clay which I dig and process myself.  The details were carved in and it was hand burnished using a polished stone.  It was then fired traditionally outdoors in a wood fire which was smothered with manure creating the rich black and brown coloration.

Size: 7.5 inches long by 4.75 inches wide bye 3.25 inches tall.
